LECTURE AT THE FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY, UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE

May 23, 2019

As a guest lecturer within the course Introduction to World Religions, I delivered a lecture titled Spiritual Dimension of the Vehicular Art in South Asia to the students of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy – University of Belgrade on Wednesday, May 22 2019. The motifs and decorative elements with pious character have an especially important role in the realm of vehicular decoration in the countries of South Asia. Namely, the spiritual symbols on decorated vehicles in this part of the world that are reflecting religious beliefs, superstitions, and overall worldviews of their owners and drivers serve as well as social identifiers, positioning them among the multitude of religious, confessional and in many cases social groups. The presentation that was based on my research study and long-term photography project on this subject included visual material made during the fieldwork in form of photos and video footage.
